Foobar2000 0.9.6.9 could be installed in to your system in two mode, standard and portable.

STANDARD MODE is same as “install for all users” option in older version and you need administrative privileges to install this mode.

PORTABLE MODE extracts the installer content and creates additional files that tells foobar2000 to store any configuring data in its installation folder and not to alter the windows registry. It is noted that the possibility to edit file type associations with foobar2000 is not available as it require making changes in the registry.

Changes in Media Library behaviour:

FOLDER WATCHING: In this version the Media Library automatically track changes made to the content of the Media Library folders. Hence manual removal of dead items or refreshing the content of Media Library is not necessary.

HIDDEN AND SYSTEM FILES: This version respects hidden and system flags and files and folders with such flags will be ignored. This can be used to select hidden cuesheets or files referenced by cuesheets.

Foobar 2000 now refuses to load components built with affected SDK versions while running on Windows Vista, as a permanent recovery from the bug “bad allocation” that was present in the older versions of Foobar 2000 SDK that was released before 30-07-2006. By updating with this new version the affected components from the older versions can be fixed.

Adding cuesheet files with the albums in various music trading communities is popular in recent times, which leads in the confusion of adding each track twice. Hence to help with this issue cuesheets are now being ignored defaultly during addition of entire folder to the Media Library. It can be changed in Preferences ⇒ General and Preferences ⇒ Media Library.

To cripple the functionality of Foobar 2000 0.9.6, you should uninstall any third-party Matroska related components before using it.
